The Value in Taking a Step Back

Are you putting out yet another fire that has popped up?

What did that just cost you in terms of revenue?  What did that cost you in terms of balancing care with your business and your life?

What would it look like to really be managing your life & business with your aging parent?

Do you feel like you have little control and that you can’t get as much done which results in low cash flow?

What if there were a different way?  What if instead of the overwhelm and worry of ‘I-think-I-fixed-this-but-I-know-something- else-is-going-to-pop-up,’ you were enjoying stability and peacefulness?

I’m about to share with you a way that you can be less anxious, have more time and a simpler life.  Ready?

Take a step back.

Yep.  The value here is when you press pause and take a step back to look at the current situation as it relates to you taking care of your aging parent while managing your life and your business, you can identify a few things:

  • The problems that continually pop up
  • The things that would be helpful to have in place so that you canexperience the peacefulness and stability in your life.

What that looked like when my clients Diana and Sally Jo stepped back and assessed their situations:

✔️Diana and her sisters are each taking turns taking mom to her doctors.  Diana isn’t the one doing all of the transportation so she has more time to spend on her businesses.  Yes, she has more than one!

✔️Sally Jo has hired someone to take care of mowing her lawn so that she has more time to continue to build her business.

What’s one big problem that continually interrupts your work and life?  Comment below because I’d love to know to support you.

The Secret to Taking on More Responsibility

Taking care of an aging parent while running a business?

Do you find that time gets eaten away from your work?

Today I’m going to share with you the secret to managing taking on more responsibility so that you can focus and move the needle forward.

Ready?

One of the ways to manage taking on more responsibility is to call in the 3 D’s – Dump it, Delegate it, Do it.

Watch while I break this formula down for you – in less than 5 minutes⬇️

First, I invite you to get centered. Feet on the floor. 3 deep breaths in and 3 deep breaths out. Light a candle. Pour a glass of wine. Grab a notebook and a pen that you love to write with.

Then brain-dump everything that you are doing – for yourself, your work, your aging parent, etc.

Once you have your list, go line by line and ask yourself – Can I dump this? (What are the consequences if I do not do this – if there are no consequences, dump it!) Can I delegate this? (Virtual assistant, bookkeeper, kids, partner/spouse, lawn care guy, house cleaner) and finally – Can I do this in 5 minutes or less? Then do it.

Let’s continue the conversation this Friday, April 28th at 2 cst/12 pst during the monthly gathering, Taking Care of Aging Parents WHILE Running a Business.

Taking care of an aging parent while running a business is not easy (understatement of the year!) And you are running at double time, working so hard to do all of the things. I invite you to slow down so that you can take care of yourself, your business and your health.

The #1 Skill that Earners Have In Common and How YOU Can Have It

Focus is the #1 skilll that all earners have.

How do I do it?  I’m going to share with you a method that I recently discovered that works for me.  But first, let’s talk about why it’s important.

Barbara Stanny (Huson), author of Overcoming Underearning, says that focus is the #1 thing that all earners have in common.

You know it’s no joke to be unfocused – especially when you’ve added the layer of taking care of an aging parent, to your life.

What I have found is that when I’m focused, and when my clients are able to focus, the background worries drop away and that’s when the money rolls in.   Money is the outward sign that I am helping people.  The more money I make, the more people I help.  That’s what happened to my client Sally Jo – she raised her fee when she got focused and is now earning more than she had before.

Here’s how I stay focused:

These boards help me to break down my tasks into categories which help me to focus on them.  For example, Monday for me is Social Media Monday and on that day of the week, I’m focusing on my social media column.

Where do you need more focus? Comment below and tell us.

What to do when the shit hits the fan

“You know the poops going to hit the fan sooner or later,” that’s what I hear from talking with women who own their own business AND take care of an aging parent.

Which is why in this situation it is so helpful to learn from other’s perspectives and to feel like you aren’t alone.

“That constant tug.”

“It’s just there.”

It’s important to talk about these feelings because what’s happening when you are worried about the shit hitting the fan is you lose focus.

It happened to Valerie who runs her own bookkeeping business. She found that when she was at work, she worried about her mom. When she was with her mom, she was worried about work.

As a result, her time at work was fractured and because it was fractured, she wasn’t enrolling new clients.

When she was able to share her fears and worry with a community of women just like her – business owners, caring for an aging parent, that’s when she was able to focus on her work which meant enrolling new clients to keep her business profitable. Not to mention that now when she’s with her mom, she’s totally focused on her – and enjoys the time they spend together.

Can you relate?

Join me on Friday, March 31st at 2 cst/12 pst as we gather as a community of women business owners who are caring for an aging parent.

We will be talking about what to do when the shit hits the fan. Hint: turn the fan off (we’ll be talking about that – turning the fan off.)😉

And since we are all business owners, expect some networking – that always happens in these gatherings too.

Do it now. Because you know how it goes – something else will come up and then the opportunity has passed.
